Tote it! |
Here's what you'll need:
1 yard of medium weight cotton fabric (canvas or denim also works well)
Coordinating thread
Sewing machine
Scissors
Measuring tape or ruler
Pins
Optional: fabric paint or markers for personalizing your bag
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut your fabric to the desired size for your tote bag. A good size for a standard tote bag is 18" x 18" for the main panel, and two pieces of fabric measuring 18" x 6" for the handles.
Step 2: Hem the top and bottom edges of the main panel by folding the fabric over twice and sewing in place.
Step 3: Fold the handle fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew along the edge. Turn the handles right side out and press.
Step 4: Pin the handles to the top of the main panel, making sure they are centered and equidistant from the sides. Sew the handles in place.
Step 5: Fold the main panel in half, right sides together, and sew up the sides, leaving the top open.
Step 6: Turn the tote bag right side out and press.
Step 7: Optional: Personalize your bag with fabric paint or markers.
