With the holidays fast approaching I know that you will be doing a good bit of shopping and browsing so you will need your hands to be free, especially if you have kids in tow.

This is the perfect tutorial to help you jazz up your existing clutches and wallets with new straps or make something new for yourself or maybe a gift for a friend.

Wristlet Strap

Step#1

Materials needed for this project.

Fabric

Cut 1 piece of fabric 14" length x 2" wide
Cut 1 piece of lightweight interfacing (Pellon) 13" length x2" wide

Hardware

(1) 1/2" Swivel Hook / Lobster Claw

Step #2
Add interfacing to the fabric piece

Use a steam iron to adhere the piece of fusible interfacing(13"x2")
to the wrong side of the fabric piece measuring (14"x2")

Folded fabric
Iron interfacing to fabric and fold
Note: The shiny side of the interfacing is the fusible side.

Step#3
Folding the fabric
Fold the fabric in half lengthways and press wrong sides together.

Open out raw edges and then press the raw edges towards the centre line you just created.
Now you should have a piece measuring 1" wide.
Fold once again in half and press.

You will have 4 layers with raw edges hidden and measuring 1/2" wide.

Four layers
Fabric folded in four layers

Note: How to determine the width of fabric to use.

The width of the strap depends on the size of the swivel hook you intend to use for your project.

For example- if you want to use a 1" swivel hook, your cut of fabric would have to be 4" wide.
Simply multiply the size of the swivel hook by 4 to find the width of the fabric needed.

A tiny bit of Math for you guys.😊

Step#4
Assemble and sew

Slide your strap through the swivel hook.
Open the short raw edges and sew them right sides together using a 1/2" seam allowance.

sew short edges together
Pin and sew

Press the seam open with your fingers.
Refold the strap into 4 layers

Sew along the open side and then the folded side at 1/8" seam allowance.
Move the swivel hook out of the way as you sew.

Complete sewing the wristlet
Sew around to close the opening

Slide the Swivel hook close to the short seam and sew across to secure the hook.
