Wristlet Strap
Step#1
Materials needed for this project.
Fabric
Cut 1 piece of fabric 14" length x 2" wide
Cut 1 piece of lightweight interfacing (Pellon) 13" length x2" wide
Hardware
(1) 1/2" Swivel Hook / Lobster Claw
Step #2
Add interfacing to the fabric piece
Use a steam iron to adhere the piece of fusible interfacing(13"x2")
to the wrong side of the fabric piece measuring (14"x2")
Step#3
Folding the fabric
Fold the fabric in half lengthways and press wrong sides together.
Open out raw edges and then press the raw edges towards the centre line you just created.
Now you should have a piece measuring 1" wide.
Fold once again in half and press.
You will have 4 layers with raw edges hidden and measuring 1/2" wide.
The width of the strap depends on the size of the swivel hook you intend to use for your project.
For example- if you want to use a 1" swivel hook, your cut of fabric would have to be 4" wide.
Simply multiply the size of the swivel hook by 4 to find the width of the fabric needed.
A tiny bit of Math for you guys.😊
Step#4
Assemble and sew
Slide your strap through the swivel hook.
Press the seam open with your fingers.
Refold the strap into 4 layers
Sew along the open side and then the folded side at 1/8" seam allowance.
Move the swivel hook out of the way as you sew.
Quick and easy.
You're done!
Fabric
Cut 1 piece of fabric 36" length x 2" width
Cut 1 piece of fusible interfacing 35" length x 2" width
*You can cut your strap to whatever length you prefer.
Hardware
(2) 1/2" Swivel Hooks
Adhere the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric using a steam iron.
Fold the two short edges inward at 1/4" and Press.
Fold the fabric in half lengthways and press.
Open outward the raw edges.
Then fold them towards the centre line you just created and press.
Fold again in half and press.
You will now have 4 layers.
Sew along all 4 sides of the strap with a 1/8 seam allowance.
Starting at the open side, across a short end then down the folded side and across the other short end.
Slide one of the swivel hooks onto one of the short ends.
Fold over at 1-1/2" or 1.5".
Sew a box to hold the swivel hook in place.
Repeat to secure a swivel hook on the other end of the strap.
Now attach this to your clutch purse and you're all set to go.
