Online Bag Biz

I am very keen on starting a handmade bag business, as such, I have been doing extensive reading on the topic.

It is my dream to have my own business but I am terribly indecisive, I'm sure I'm not alone in this regard.

I decided to write this blog to document my journey to business ownership and to share what I have learnt along the way with you so that we can all take steps in the direction of our dreams.

So let's get started!

Bagmaking hacks for beginners

Through research, I have found that the key to business success online encompasses seven steps.
  1. Find a problem and offer a solution.
  2. Start a blog about your product or service.
  3. Set up a website.
  4. Drive traffic to your site through S.E.O (search engine optimization)
  5. Establish yourself as an expert on the product or service.
  6. Interact promptly with subscribers and customers by email and social media.
  7. Use back-end sales and up-selling to increase your income. (mailing list)

So let's look into these strategies a bit further.

Find a problem and offer a solution.

Use social media and online forums such as Facebook and Quora etc, to find out what people are talking about, what problems they are having and try to find a solution to those problems.

For example, you can make bags that can fit in a wheelchair, waterproof bags for

outdoor activities or bags to fit on bicycles, just to name a few.

 Wahlaa! you've found your market.

Use the google keyword tool or any other, to find out which keywords people are using to find that particular product or service you intend to offer and how competitive it is.

Check out established websites to see what they are offering and how you can improve it.

If you intend to sell handmade products as I am then I suggest you visit Etsy.com.

Start a blog about your product/service.
There are various blog hosting sites paid or free, example Wordpress.com or Blogger.com for you to choose from.
Write quality and useful content about how your product or service will benefit your customers and encourage them to buy it.

Offer opt-ins to collect email addresses in order to have direct access to your customers and offer more sales to increase your earnings.

Set up a website/shop
There are numerous websites to set up Shop such as Shopify.com,Wixsite.com and esty.com to name a few.

Make sure your website is easy to navigate.
Use clean and clear images because images are all a customer has to go on when making a decision to purchase a product online.

Use relevant keywords to describe your product.

Drive traffic to your site through S.E.O.
Write quality content on your blog and social media with back-links to your shop.

Interact with your readers and customers, also encourage them to leave comments and reviews.

Make use of the google keyword tool to find converting keywords for your blog titles and product descriptions.
Post content frequently on your blog and write in a friendly manner o.k. ( Reminder to self)

There's a whole lot of information on S.E.O which I am not going to mention as I am not a technical person. I just wanted to offer a bit of guidance on the topic.

Establish yourself as an expert on the product or service.
Join and interact with people on forum directories and social media pages where your target market hangs out, by offering your knowledge and experience on a specific topic such as bag making.

Give free tutorials on YouTube and Facebook live, host live chat sessions to answer questions and pretty soon everyone will be pounding on your door for your expert advice. Ha!

Interact promptly with customers and subscriber by email and social media.

Turn visitors to your site into buyers for life with the use of email marketing.

Use op-ins to get the emails from your visitors so that you can make sales offers directly to them with their permission.
This a very affordable and effective way of marketing. Give them what they want.

Use back-end sales and up-selling to increase your income.
There is a very good chance of a first-time customer returning to your shop for another purchase.

This is your opportunity to up-sell by offering a complementary product and coupons for their next purchase by email.

So, this is all for now. I hope you found this information useful. Let's all agree to take the first step in bringing our dreams of handmade bag business ownership to fruition.

If there is anything you would like to share, or maybe some words of encouragement please do so in the comment section. I would love to hear from you.
